How can the Statewide Video Network be Improved?

I. Badgernet – What is it?

Badgernet is a statewide video and data network that has been created by DOA and the Governor primarily to provide a means for PK-12 school districts to distribute and share applications such as video teaching programs and Internet connections. To this end, multi-year contracts are negotiated between the State and a select set of telecom vendors to provide price stability to school districts that sign up for the program.

Telecom Infrastructure and Economic Health

The Arteries of Commerce - in the early 19th century, it was the canal barge. In the late 19th century, it was the railroad. In the early 20th century it was highways and now, in the 21st century, it is broadband video, data and voice networking. Telecom implementation decisions made by educational institutions, businesses and governments affects the distribution of information resources and directly impacts the economic health of states, regions, the country and the world.
